Since 1968, the Sea Breeze Singers have gathered people around the unmistakable sound of close harmony.
Our Corpus Christi chapter brings singers together across generations and backgrounds. What began as a shared love of barbershop has grown into a lasting community—one that rehearses, performs, serves, and welcomes new voices.
We are the Corpus Christi Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, carrying a uniquely American musical tradition forward with warmth, personality, and our own Gulf Coast spirit.

Long before music lived in earbuds, harmony lived wherever people gathered.
Barbershop harmony grew from America’s rich tradition of communal singing—friends discovering that unaccompanied voices could create something larger than any one singer. Tenor, lead, baritone, and bass weave around a melody until the overtones seem to ring in the air. That ringing chord is the sound barbershoppers spend a lifetime chasing.
The music matters because it asks us to listen as closely as we sing. Every part is essential, yet no part succeeds alone. Rehearsals become friendships; performances become shared memories; people of different ages and backgrounds find common ground in a chord.
For the Sea Breeze Singers, preserving this heritage does not mean keeping it behind glass. It means welcoming new voices, sharing old and new songs with fresh audiences, and passing forward the camaraderie that has sustained barbershop for generations.
Singing above the melody, the tenor adds brightness, lift, and a little extra decoration. Its light, ringing line gives the chord its upper shimmer without overpowering the lead.
The lead usually carries the melody and communicates the song’s emotional heart. The other parts shape their harmony around the lead’s words, phrasing, and interpretation.
The baritone moves above and below the melody, supplying whichever notes are needed to complete each chord. It is often the most intricate part—and the one that makes the harmony lock into place.
The bass provides depth, rhythm, and stability. Its resonant lower notes anchor the ensemble and give the upper voices something solid to ring against.
No part creates barbershop harmony alone. Each singer listens, adjusts, and contributes something different until separate voices become one unified sound.
